I am doing a major tidying-up of my hard drive because it’s overflowing and whilst going through old folders, I came upon this poem. I wrote it a few years ago for a very special friend. I thought I’d share it here. Maybe other people will like it, too.
Meeting you, my friend,
Touched me more than you’ll ever know,
The hand of friendship extended,
To help comfort and forget our sorrow.
Special to me, beyond the realm of words,
Which no book could ever describe,
A thousand words or more,
Could not speak louder than my heart does inside.
The beauty and depth that lies within you,
Captivate my heart and soul,
Lending me wings of confidence,
To fly to places I’ve not known.
The greatest gifts I have been given,
Are your friendship and your hugs,
Your glowing warmth and comfort,
Your loving words.
Through the darkness and the hurt,
We met with souls bared,
We gave each other light,
In our days of despair.
Forever would I stand by you,
And tenderly hold your hand,
Fight the pains of each day,
And give you love and strength.
I would gently catch your tears,
That, from those soulful eyes,
Fall so lightly…
And hold you if you need.
